Mary Fisher: Art, Activism and Design

MARY FISHER is an author, artist, advocate, social entrepreneur, and global leader in the arena of social change through positive thought and action. Best known for her groundbreaking keynote address at the 1992 Republican National Convention demanding compassion for HIV/AIDS patients, herself included, Fisher shares her experience, strength and hope with boundless energy. The recipient of five honorary doctorates and countless tributes, Fisher has spoken to audiences around the world, authored six books including her current best-selling memoir, MESSENGER, and is currently launching the latest expression of her creative philosophy, The 100 Good Deeds Bracelet.

Drawing inspiration from her talent as a visual artist and her activism on behalf of those affected by HIV/AIDS, Fisher has created an exceptional collection of fabrics and trimmings for Groundworks, tapping into her deep relationship with nature and evoking the beauty of life both visually and spiritually. The collection is layered with a variety of organic motifs and intricate artisanal techniques, reflecting her mixed media art. The sophisticated, subdued color palettes and unique patterns deliver an expressive collection rich in texture and profound in emotion. A portion of the proceeds from the collection will be donated to the Design Industry Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA).

A meet and greet with Mary Fisher will immediately follow her presentation at the Lee Jofa showroom, Suite 156.

SUSAN HABLE is the artist and designer behind the boldly colored and hand drawn patterns of Hable Construction Design Studio. Her first book, A Colorful Home, published in 2015, reveals how to open our eyes to the colors around us and bring them to life in rooms composed with meaning. Hable is a member of The Color Association of the United States, a New York based organization focusing on color trends for the home, fashion, and beauty industries. With experience in collage, sculpture, welding, drawing, printmaking, and painting, Hable is most recognized by her sensibility with color and form, while honing an aesthetic that is timeless. Inspired by travels to Italy, Asia, and South America as well as her garden and community, her work has a global appeal with an intimate presence.

Hable Construction has evolved over the past 16 years, developing collections existing of bath, bedding and decorative home products. Their first exclusive line of fabrics with Hickory Chair evolved into a furniture collection in the spring of 2015. At the core of the collection are contemporary and sculptural lines with inspiration coming from Italian and Scandinavian pre-modernists. In April of 2016, an additional 25 pieces will be added to the Hable for Hickory Chair collection. As partnerships continue to develop, Hable remains true to supporting products made in the United States.

Following her presentation, please join Susan for a book signing in the Witford Laguna showroom, Suite 165.
